CAN BE Coordinator of Entrepreneurial Services Jocelyn Sterenchock presented the 2018 Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Jeremy Thorne during the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce’s 18th annual Business and Community Awards Luncheon. This marks the fifth consecutive year that CAN BE has sponsored the award.
Thorne is the owner of ThorneCare Landscape Solutions, LLC, a professional landscape company with more than 14 years of experience in the industry. He began his entrepreneurial career by starting a mowing business at an early age. By the age of 25, Jeremy went on to attend college and pursue a horticultural degree. After working for a time at a landscaping company in State College, Thorne returned to Greater Hazleton so he could start his own business proving quality landscaping services.

The company currently employs three full-time individuals, who all have degrees in landscape/horticulture, as well as two part-time employees. Its sales have grown from $100,000 in the first year to a projected $300,000 in 2018.
Sterenchock said, “CAN BE is honored to once again sponsor the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The purpose of this award is promote the development of future business owners, under the age of 35, within Greater Hazleton. Applicants were scored on business strategy, long-term goals, growth and community contribution. With that in mind, I feel Jeremy was a perfect selection and I commend him for how quickly he has grown his business and his dedication to expanding his operations in the future.”
Thorne’s vision and long-term goal is to build a facility which would include displays, a nursery and mulch materials, in order for customers to have an all-inclusive experience and also attract like-minded employees.
After graduation, Jeremy stays active with his alma mater by serving on the Penn College Alumni Task Force and travels to the school to teach classes.
