Starting a small business is never easy, and for many, the thought of being a business owner seems impossible. However, with the right mentors and resources, it becomes possible to turn that dream into a reality. That is precisely how Kimberly Ray found herself launching Kimberly Nailed It LLC, a brand new up-and-coming nail salon in the Hazleton area that celebrated its ribbon-cutting on May 9, 2024.
Ray's recently discovered passion for entrepreneurship has been fueled by her lifelong love for art and beauty. Growing up, her older sister let her do her hair and makeup and even encouraged her to attend beauty school at the Jolie Health & Beauty Academy in Hazleton after graduating high school.
While studying cosmetology, one thing became clear: nails were her passion. “I’ve always been artistically inclined and have enjoyed drawing and painting, so it makes sense that I love to do nails,” she said. “The hand-painted nail art I do really makes my heart soar, and I love to see people so excited about the results when I’m done.”
Ray attributes her success to her family and her biggest mentor, Ashley Evert, who inspired her to start her own business. “I don’t think I would have done this had our paths not crossed. [Ashley] really has shown me that if you want something, you can get it done and then some.” Evert, the owner of Halogen Hair Co., a salon in Hazleton, has also utilized CAN BE’s virtual services to build a thriving business.
As a brand-new entrepreneur, Ray learned about CAN BE’s virtual services from CAN DO Director of Economic Development Jocelyn Sterenchock. Having the help of her mentors and CAN BE’s resources was instrumental in starting her business. “I love how easily accessible CAN BE is for entrepreneurs like me. There’s a whole team of talented and caring people who really want to help you achieve your goals and follow your dreams.”
“Owning my own business seemed like such an impossible, unattainable idea at the start,” she added. “Now that I’m doing it, it just feels right. And I’ve already learned so much about myself and about being an entrepreneur so far.”
When Ray set out on this journey, her goal was to create a comfortable and fun atmosphere to get your nails done. Kimberly Nailed It LLC, located on W Broad St in Hazleton, is laid-back, clean, and welcoming. She focuses on creating a positive experience for her clients. As she looks excitedly toward the future, her goals are to keep growing and learning and to have many years of success.
